Everyone Needs an Editor
The brain is a beautiful, fabulous thing, and also incredibly good at really messing up your writing. Whether you’ve looked at your document so many times that you aren’t sure about affect vs. effect even though you knew at the start, you’ve lost track of your knife in your murder mystery, or your personal statement reads like your resume in complete sentences, I am here to help.

I offer a free sample edit of 1,000 words (about 5 pages, double-spaced) for projects that are 10,000 words or more and 200 words for projects under 10,000 words, not to exceed more than 40% of the project.
Proofreading
1-3 ¢ per word
You have a complete document, and you want one pass through for the spelling and grammar mistakes that spellcheck didn’t catch. Your plurals and possessives will be correct, your tables will be consistently formatted, and you will be confident in your em-dashes vs. semi-colons.
Light Copyedit
3-4 ¢ per word
Proofreading plus grammar and sentence structure, without changing your written voice. Notes on anything that feel awkward or confusing. General notes on overall flow. Includes a 2nd pass on any new material as a result of the first round of edits.
Heavy Copyedit
5-8 ¢ per word
Improvements to sentence flow and structure, paragraph structure, and overall narrative flow. I will keep track of the murder weapon, make sure your magic system is consistent, and flag character inconsistencies. Includes 2nd pass for new material and final proofread.
Personal Statement Coaching
$300-$500
This option is for the people who simply have no clue where to start. If you have most of a personal statement that is not just a regurgitation of your resume, choose an option above. If you need someone to take your resume and walk you through the process of making it a compelling story, choose this option. Includes a series of brain-dump prompts, at least 2 hours (can be split) of zoom or phone discussions around your answers and content structure, 1 heavy copyedit and 1 proofread.
Additional virtual coaching or edit rounds can be added for an additional fee.
